Yea, it doesn’t sound like to big a deal for you non-smokers. But I got thru last night, a bar night with co-workers, without lighting up. I played like shit (well there is nothing new there…) but got thru without a smoke.
Opie and Anthony canceled
WNEW-FM has issued the following press release:
Based on recent events, The Opie and Anthony Show has been cancelled, and will be replaced by other programming beginning tomorrow.
Westwood One, Opie and Anthony’s syndicator has also cancelled the program. The program aired on 18 stations across the country.
Also on Thursday, the top U.S. communications regulator ordered an investigation into complaints that the shock jocks allegedly broadcast a live, eyewitness account of a couple having sex in St. Patrick’s Cathedral. This report lead to today’s cancellation.

Sleeping Angels makes the news again
“Sept. 11 brought the family together, ironically. It was like a another Thanksgiving,” said the boys’ father, Dante Martino. Four days later, tragedy would strike again. Hunter James, while sleeping in his crib in his Upper Moreland home, died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, or the unexpected death of an apparently healthy baby – usually between 2 and 4 months old – for reasons that cannot be explained, even after a thorough investigation.
Katie and Dante Martino were devastated. But from their grief and pain came hope and help for others, in the form of the Sleeping Angels Fund, an organization dedicated to helping financially needy families pay for funeral arrangements after the sudden death of their infants.

Yesterday I got to watch Dante, my brother, and Katie, my sister in-law, film a commercial for Comcast Digital Television. It was great fun. The commercial is going to be something else. Expect it to be playing sometime early September.

The author, Jos Claerbout, passed away August 20, 1999. He was 25. From this website you can tell he inspired many.
Was this a victory for the blogsphere?

Undoubtedly, this helped give Majette the national exposure she needed for fund raising, which enabled her to mount a serious campaign. Without money, Majette, running against a popular incumbent, would have found it hard to get her message out.
…The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is declaring Denise Majette the winner over Cynthia McKinney in the Democratic primary for Congress in Georgia. With 161 of the 174 precincts reporting, Majette leads McKinney by a margin of 59 percent to 41 percent.

One nagging thought is whether the Democrats could have pulled off something like this. Is this a victory for the blogsphere? After all, I never read a damn thing in the mainstream news about here campaign contributors. Or is this simply a victory for Republicans in influencing a Democratic primary?
Saw The Godfather for the first time yesterday
Yes, it’s true. Yes I realize you don’t believe me. That’s ok. What did I think? Great movie.But the best? I don’t know. I still have my favorite five and this didn’t budge them. In my top five lies another mobster film that is more of a fan, then critical favorite – Scarface.

The Long Strange Trip to Java
This is an unabridged, unedited version of the Epilogue of my book, The Java Handbook. My editors fought with three problems, libel, slander and page count. We were out of space, and they were also worried a few of my associates from the last 12 years might want to sue them for things I’ve recalled about them. Well, I kinda see their point… but then everything I say in here is merely my opinion, and this web publication in no way should reflect the views of Osborne/McGraw-Hill, nor any of their personnel. And if I’ve insulted anyone in this page to the point that they feel like calling a lawyer, I’ll snip them out of it as soon as they contact me. (I should also say that the contents of this page have nothing to do with Starwave Corporation while I’m here). ’nuff said.
I’ve debated with myself for several years about whether or not to write this down. After so much time has passed, the facts are confused, 20/20 hindsight creeps in, and selective memory plays a role in how fairly I can portray the events. Many reporters have asked me my version of these past few years, several have come close to capturing the essence of it all. But still, I feel the need to one last time, take a walk through the past to help you all understand how we came to be where we are today. To requote George Santayana from chapter 2, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

Update: This tale get’s very twisted and sad. Suffice to say that Bill made the point to tell me that IMDB was my friend to in an earlier post. Now Russ shows me how Google is my friend too. I’ve removed his name from my link because I don’t want Google to index me on it. That’s how messed up it is. Interesting though that I can’t find anything out there new past early 2001.
