“Sept. 11 brought the family together, ironically. It was like a another Thanksgiving,” said the boys’ father, Dante Martino. Four days later, tragedy would strike again. Hunter James, while sleeping in his crib in his Upper Moreland home, died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, or the unexpected death of an apparently healthy baby – usually between 2 and 4 months old – for reasons that cannot be explained, even after a thorough investigation.
Katie and Dante Martino were devastated. But from their grief and pain came hope and help for others, in the form of the Sleeping Angels Fund, an organization dedicated to helping financially needy families pay for funeral arrangements after the sudden death of their infants.
