Is there going to be a U-turn in Bush’s environmental stance?

DrudgeReport – BUSH ADMIN OUTLINES ‘GLOBAL WARMING’ EFFECTS ON AMERICA; ACKNOWLEDGES DAMAGE

We can only hope. Here’s hoping for tomorrow’s news.

Update: NYTimes – Climate Changing, U.S. Says in Report Looks like there is some reading to do. I have visions of Pilot, while recognizing something is afoot, washing his hands of the responsibility.

  1. And (from my side of the road) Bush administration backs Maine’s drug discount plan to “try to force pharmaceutical companies into price negotiations with the state as a way of lowering drug costs for the uninsured. State officials estimate that it would benefit 325,000 people who lack insurance coverage for drugs.”

  2. Not really a big shift in policy, since they don’t suggest any action to forestall global warming, but only that we need to learn to adapt to it, since it’s inevitable. But at least they didn’t suppress the scientific findings.

  3. Out of character? Not really; he’s just playing politics that is not going to cost the federal government anything, will make him (and other Republicans) look good the next election cycle, and only effects a state where the big pharms are losing lots of sales across the border anyway.

It’s win/win/win for him, without risking a lot of political capital. I’m surprised his staff hasn’t done something with it in the other border states, too; a chance to pick up some support in the northern midwestern states. The big auto companies who pay for their workers medical benefits (and run many clinics) would love something like this.

Money in the bank and political cover, too. It’s brilliant by half- which means it was thought of by his staffers.

  4. After doing some reading, both the left and the right are attacking him on this ‘new’ environmental stance.

That’s interesting. What do yas think?
