Doesn’t this just reek of the old Soviet Union?
Then again, doesn’t this too?
The message being sent: There is only the party. You must be loyal to the party. To pursue your own beliefs, when contrary to the party, is treason.

I’m of two minds on this. Mainly I think that when Spector (and other senators) make individual votes they should use their best judgment, but when they’re exercising committee duties they need to bend a little closer to the will of their party because their role on the committee is mostly due to their party having a majority, not really anything specific to individual accomplishment. Make sense?
Makes sense, but I’m not sure I agree 🙂
Thought-Crime!
It is rather disturbing. But unfortunately, a lot of people do seem to now think disagreeing with the president, criticizing the government, or simply supporting a different political party than the current administration, qualifies as treason… So I doubt there’ll be much stoppage of such things like the CIA being filtered in a way.
Ignorance abounds, and so does hypocricy…
Often it’s the same people who will cry “traitor” about people who dislike Bush, that spent years saying nasty things about Hillary Clinton, crying out about how they hated Bill Clinton and everything about him… and still make tired, old, lewd jokes about Monica Lewinsky.
I was absolutely perplexed just last night, when I overheard someone make several lewd, tired, old jokes about Monica Lewinsky. As if it was a hot topic, and a fresh joke list! A few things went through my mind as possible explanations – but none were clear, as I didn’t hear any other conversation surrounding the jokes that would give a clue.
So I wonder… Is this guy that obsessed with Monica Lewinsky still to this day because he’s rather pervy? Is he perhaps still harboring resentments about Bill Clinton having been president, and just can’t let it go yet? Does he feel the need to defend the current administration by trying to remind others of the social sex scandal of the last administration? Is this guy just behind the times generally? Or perhaps it’s taken the past 5 years for him to properly memorize these jokes. Or maybe he’s too scared shitless of being labeled a traitor by making timely jokes about the current president to be current with his jokes?
At any rate, I don’t care what political leaning you are, Monica Lewinsky is OLD NEWS. Whatever jokes may have possibly once been funny, have stopped being at all entertaining a long time ago. I feel like saying, “Move on, people, life is a-passin’ ya by!” It’s like the Catholic priest jokes… That’s even old news. I actually heard one of those within the past week or 2, and I think I groaned out loud. And this is coming from someone who does beat funny stories & sayings into the ground. But not the same old widespread generic jokes, for freakin’ years on end!
