  1. Interesting that Smugmug ( http://www.smugmug.com/ ), a better (see link to comparision below) service than Flickr, gets very little attention. As a web search of “flickr vs. smugmug” reveals, most people who have tried both, prefer Smugmug. Flickr, which is a good service in its own right, seems to get all the hype and often more praise than it deserves. It is how some golfers felt — even when Tiger Woods was ranked #2, he was still treated as if he was #1. He is great, but often gets more praise at the expense of others deserving it.

Disclaimer: I have no investment in Smugmug, but am a very happy customer of theirs. http://photos.rajiv.com/

  2. I find that interesting too Rajiv. Some products and people just get overriding mindshare that obliterates any mention of other products or ideas. Flikr has mindshare and bloggers are helping it keep it.

I don’t post personal photos online so I can’t do a fair writeup beyond mentioning the technical tidbits of Flikr that I find interesting and relevent to what I do.

  3. Better is quite subjective. I’ve done a comparison at my site I came to the conclusion that I perfer Smugmug. However, their are thousands of people that are just looking for a site on which to share their photos. Flickr’s sense of greater community involvement might be just what they want. In any regard, both Smugmug and Flickr are leaps ahead of the “competitors” in terms of overall value and style and are only lacking in total user base.
