We need something like this in Philadelphia: Triangle Bloggers Conference 2005 in Blog Together.
Rafe, in particular, got me jealous 🙂
Sad thing is, my work doesn’t involve blogging. What I do with Philly Future is entirely volunteer in nature. So to pull off a similar event would take resources far beyond what I have. But if anyone would like to help kick something like this off – I’m in.
Are you sure it’s beyond your resources? I think it’s entirely possible that your employer would be willing to let you use a large conference room in the big building in Philly, which is the major cost, and beyond that you get most everything free. Or else how about University of Pennsylvania, schools are often very friendly too. What other things do you need? Some food but plenty of event organizers have been able to arrange sponsors or donations. Wireless web access? Maybe, maybe not, but it isn’t a dealbreaker either way. Start off small, a one day event with people left to their own devices for lunch if you can’t get food donated. Go for it! If you can organize PhillyFuture, you can organize a BloggerCon! Email me if you want to discuss further.
The number one most valuable resource I lack – time.
If I had more time, I could do this. That’s why I’m always asking for more help at PF 🙂 If there was a group of people maintaining it – I could spend more time organizing events such as this and in making feature improvements to the site.
If PF got more volunteer effort, then I could attack these things and try and make them happen. Slowly we’re building a team, and hopefully it will happen in the long run.
Such are the trials of trying to put together something like this as a volunteer labor of love.
Okay, I hear that. But I bet if you arranged the space and time people, if only for the public credit, would pop up to help with other organizing chores.
