Selective Constitutionists – leave T.O. alone

As Jeff Jarvis pointed out – it is far too easy for just a few people to suppress the free speech of the many by using the FCC. He filed a Freedom of Information Act request to research a $1.2 million dollar fine the FCC levied against Fox for the suggestion of sex on one of its shows. What he found was disturbing. You should read it.

Now these “Selective Constitutionists” are up in arms over the Monday Night Football opening Desperate Housewives advertisement, featuring Terrell Owens and Nicollette Sheridan. Gimme a break. It was a soap opera spoof piece! If you really want to sanitize sports advertisements, lets start with all those damn Viagra or beer commercials. I just hate hypocracy. I just hate it.

Notice my use of the phrase “Selective Constitutionists”. We need a word or phrase, with as much omph as ‘politically correct liberals’ to label those who decide to support only part of the Constitution, part of the time. I don’t know what that word or phrase is, but I do know it’s important to find.

  1. My only gripe with MNF is that next time they could use a hotter chick. The one in the spot with TO was a woof woof.

I don’t really see what the big deal is. I keep hearing people say: “My twelve year old son was watching, and I was embarrased.” Get a clue, and go look under your “12 year olds bed. I’m sure you’ll find magazines that are way more offensive.

Where were all these people outrage when Ophrah Winfrey had guests on her show talking about giving blowjobs and discussing men having sex with multiple partners at the same time?

Oh thats right, Oprah is black so the FCC won’t run the risk of being called racist for fining her. Meanwhile Stern gets lit up with big fines.

Maybe all the rage for MNF’s spot was racist since TO is black and the chick was white. If it were two white people would it be on the news right now?

  2. Similar suspicious were expressed here:

I hadn’t even thought about that, because I didn’t know it involved a black man and white woman – ’cause I didn’t see it, and I don’t know much about football.

Anyway, this is the first time I’ve heard of Nicolette Sheridan since “Knots Landing”. I always thought she was exceedingly pretty!

  3. She was a woof woof….

I missed it too, but saw the replay.

    It’s an over-reaction.

If a fine is dealed out, it’s a total joke…..
