Every vote must count

Voters Unite has an easy to follow list of voting machine troubles across the country.

Even if you are one of those who feel that no election deciding fraud has taken place, you need to admit that these kinds of problems are unacceptable.

I’m looking forward to seeing a resolution on these concerns (Wired).

You agree that every vote must count, don’t you?

  1. Your question brings up an interesting thing… Something I remember questioning ferociously as a kid and young adult…
Polling. You know, where they try to find out who’s voting for whom before anyone actually votes.
I always used to wonder WHERE do they get this information?
Because, and to this day, not once in my life has anyone ever called me up and asked me who I was going to vote for, before the elections.
Of course now I realize that these polling agencies take a slice out of the population and just ask them, in order to determine a general idea over the larger group. But you know, it’s easy to see how that kind of thing can lend to the general feeling that some people have that one vote doesn’t really count much. (Well, that, and the electoral college system. heh.)

  2. Is your number not listed? Are you on the national do not call list? Private #?

Or, you didn’t get a call because you were more than likely a democrat (no offense if you aren’t one) and they (the pollers) already knew your answer.

Now, while I realize that most Americans have VERY short attention apans, I’d like to remind some of you that have forgotten.

1 week ago (tonite), we were very excited and hopeful. Some of us watched as the results from the 2004 election started rolling in. Earlier in the day we were all very happy about the election’s exit poll #’s.

Keep in mind now, up until 2000, the exit polls have never been wrong. So much so this year that it is reported that GWB was told (earlier in the day) he was losing by a landslide.

    America had spoken right?

    Bzzzzzzzztttttt….

I watched the #’s coming in from every available source and wondered what the hell was going on?

I posted as much here that night if anyone would care to look.

I wrote “The Fix is in.”

I limped into work the following day feeling like I’d just lost a loved family pet. For one very short moment we had voted. America believed that it was going to change to the tide of hate and move towards light.

As the day unfolded, many of you that have internet access at work probably looked through the news sources and started checking the facts.

FACT #1 Exit Polls show strong Kerry lead in several battleground states.

FACT #2 Computers calculated the votes in the states were in SEVERE differences with exit polls. More votes counted for voters, than registered voters, broken machines, bad flash rom and memory in some machines, overcharged batteries, undercharged batteries, defective optical scanners, and lastly no way to question the result.

FACT #3 John Edwards came out around 3am 11/03/04 and says, they can wait one more night because all votes need to be counted.

FACT #4 John Kerry 12 hours later calls Bush to quit.

He quits; votes still being counted.

But don’t worry, it won’t matter in few minutes in your minds.

I now return you back to your aimless tv commericals………

  3. My phone # is now unlisted, and has been for several years. However, it wasn’t always unlisted.
Also, from what I understood, the “Do Not Call List” doesn’t apply to government or political calls – only commercial. (I could be wrong, but that’s what I understood.) That said, I AM on both my state’s list and the national list.

As for the other stuff… I am concerned about the possibilities.
But I know a lot of people are probably more concerned about their underwire bras setting off a chain of persecuting events at the airport, if you catch my drift. 😉 hehe.

  4. The only people exempt from the national do not call lists are supposed to be “Charities.”

    See:

    http://www.ftc.gov/os/2002/03/frnprivacyactdonot.htm

    And

    http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/policy/telemarketing.html

The privacy act that is supposed to apply to those who registered so they aren’t bugged is: The Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991.

As I said the “Charities,” are not included.
And the penalty for companies other than the above-mentioned is a fine of $500 per incident.

I finally had to change my # because I was getting hammered by telemarketers calling night and day. Since I’ve changed it, I haven’t gotten one call. I guess I’m lucky…..

And I wouldn’t worry about the airport security and your bra unless you stuffed a stick of C4 in there……

It’s the old ladies with the canes that I worry about… j/k

  5. This is just sad.

    Do-over (Keith Olbermann)

NEW YORK? With news this morning that the computerized balloting in North Carolina is so thoroughly messed up that all state-wide voting may be thrown out and a second election day scheduled, the story continues.

Tonight on ‘Countdown,’ we’ll examine the N.C. mess (which would not include a second presidential vote), new fuzzy math in Nevada, allegations against the Democrats in Pennsylvania, Ralph Nader’s news conference, and the other voting developments as they occur. A Stanford computer expert will address the vulnerability of the Optical Scanning system (and answer the question: which is easier to hack, electronic voting or exit polls?), and Newsweek’s Jonathan Alter will join me to report on the reporting.

In the interim, for the North Carolina situation, we refer you to the Website of the excellent newspaper The Charlotte Observer.

  6. Listen up people. Canada wants to help!!!

    http://www.marryanamerican.ca/

Ladies and gentlemen, drop your borders now that George W. Bush has been officially elected, single, sexy, American liberals – already a threatened species – will be desperate to escape.

These lonely, afraid (did we mention really hot?) progressives will need a safe haven.
You can help. Open your heart, and your home. Marry an American. Legions of Canadians have already pledged to sacrifice their singlehood to save our southern neighbours from four more years of cowboy conservatism.

    Marry an American >>

  7. Hmmm… So neo, I guess that means that our political polling information is based on polling only those Americans who enjoy telemarketing calls interupting their dinner? haha!! That seems a bit skewed.

  8. Depends on your definition of “Skewed.”

When they ask stupid questions like. “Ok, if the worlds population decreased by 1/2, and you had the choice to vote John Kerry or George Bush, and you only had 24 hours to live, who would you vote for?”

You give you answer after swallowing that last bit of food you were eating when your phone rang, only to see the gallop poll the next day that reads:

Americans that were polled last week say that George W. Bush is their choice based on emergency situations.

Now that my friend is skewed…….
