The Java 1.5 thing made the rounds a couple weeks ago at work, and at the time I couldn’t help noticing how much of Perl they’ve had to re-implement: first-class regexps, iterating over collections, generics as DWIMmy casting. Hey, they even have angle brackets — how long until Java turns into the expressive line noise that is the hallmark of idiomatic Perl?
