Is this a 'Have you no sense of decency momment?'

The Atlantic: James Fallows: "On Today's Hot Media Stories: Sherrod, "Journolist".

The only way it would be so is if we collectively stop watching, stop clicking, and stop linking to such witch hunts, such hatred, served in pursuit of traffic and ratings.

And you would think that by now, in our media-savvy land, we'd instinctively know that soundbites out of context lead to misunderstanding.

For a world of context from all sides, check out the Memeorandum thread.

So let me see, in the MOMENT, you think that she is being treated unfairly? That somehow Fox and Breitbart are to blame for words that came out of her own mouth?

This is a classic case of attack the person who shines the light on the person who has done wrong. America seems to keep rewarding people who use race as some sort of hustle to get what they want by playing the race card to no foreseeable end. And you know what? People are sick of it. I am sick of it as well.

She sued her way into the USDA to begin with. You did know that didn't you Karl? (google Pigford case) She was the recipient of a 13 million dollar settlement over "I'm black just pay me," litigation.

If Martin Luther King Jr. were alive today he'd puke over what has happened to his legacy. People like this piece of garbage soil any memory of what TRUE civil rights were all about.

If you spent two minutes to go look up her dirty laundry I'm sure you'd come to discover that.

Attack the messenger, ignore the message.

I'm sure Saul Alinsky would be proud of you Karl.

You'd fit in nicely with his clique.

Watch the video. THE ENTIRE VIDEO. A couple sentences were taken out of context.

Her entire message was about changing attitudes about race and class and money. It was actually inspirational.

But you wouldn't know that because instead of going to the source of the information - THE COMPLETE VIDEO - you instead have chosen to believe what you have been spoon-fed. A few sentences.

The vast majority of folks have backed away from believing that she was racist - even Fox news backed down from that slander - but it sounds like you want to hold onto that.

And failing that the *video* shows here as some kind of racist, you go and start to do a character attack on her past. Wow. Just wow.

Right Karl...

It's always taken "out of context," and it's always someone who "misspoke," and it's always somebody else's fault. Nobody simply admits to making mistakes anymore. God forbid people are forced to be accountable and responsible for the things they do and say. That would simply be asking too much wouldn't it?

I bring up her past because that factors into the discussion on her motives; past to present. To put her actions into context. I DID watch the whole video. And if the roles were reversed, and had that been a white person referring to blacks, the white person speaking those words would have been more than crucified on network news.

I love it. CNN, MSNBC, ABC, all seem so quick to jump on everybody but HER with regards to her blatant racist views.

As I said, it's never about addressing the FACTS to people. You want to feel bad for her? Good, go right ahead. While your at it; and since you watch to watch ENTIRE COMPLETE VIDEOS to get facts. Here's one for you to go look up.

Think back to the news stories about those members of the black caucus and black congressmen who were supposedly called the N word and spit on while walking up the steps in DC? According to their words? The network news couldn't run with that lie fast enough for 48 hours straight prior to the commiecare vote. None of them in the MSM seemed to want to bother looking at the videos that proved this didn't happen. I watched them and guess what? IT NEVER HAPPENED.

How's that for something being taken out of context? It was a lie, but hey don't let facts get in the way of a good bullshit story. And once again the NAACP came running out to play the professional victims; just like Sherrod is doing RIGHT NOW.

She, just like the the NAACP abuse their organization for personal gain and lie for a purpose. And you don't even see the agenda do you? One day (very soon) you are going to wake up and not recognize the country you live in. And when that day happens. You and millions of other people will have only themselves to blame.

Here before I forget. Since this lady is in PA. Why don't you ask her if her remarks were taken out of context.

-----

Prominent black activist Mary Frances Berry admitted today that accusing the tea party activists of being racists is an effective tool for the democrats and far left organizations. Mary Frances Berry admitted this at the Politico: Professor of American Social Thought and History, U. Penn. : Tainting the tea party movement with the charge of racism is proving to be an effective strategy for Democrats.

There is no evidence that tea party adherents are any more racist than other Republicans, and indeed many other Americans. But getting them to spend their time purging their ranks and having candidates distance themselves should help Democrats win in November. Having one’s opponent rebut charges of racism is far better …

This is too easy to knock down with facts (for example, Senator Byrd as a refutation about a 'white person' doing the same). I don't have time to do that with you.

I will just say that it is a shame that you feel the way you do and you need to read a bit about cognitive science, confirmation bias, and then hopefully recognize you are finding media to reinforce your views. Whenever you feel your pulse rise from some piece of media you should think about how you are being manipulated. And in this case someone took a movie of a person talking about personal revelation and transformation and twisted it by clipping it and emphasizing a few sentences out of the whole to their purpose - taking advantage of that human behavior. Using marketing to build anger and fear and division.

Everyone else has recognized that. You are still holding on and attempting to change the subject in order to confirm what you already believe and don't want that belief dinged. I'm not going to follow your multiple subject changes because I really don't have time for it.

You're wrong on the facts. But as this case shows, facts don't matter to many any more. It is a shame.

Still holding onto what? The truth? Yes, I do believe I am. If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, guess what? It's a duck.

If you watched that whole video and came away with the sense that she's not racist, I really don't know what to tell you. I'm calling it exactly as I see it. I don't shoot the messenger like most liberals tend to do. I have no interest in pretending to play political correctness and games. She should have never been allowed to hold an office at the USDA to begin with. She sued her way into that position, her statements, in her own words, are racist. You think she felt bad, so her making a few racist remarks is ok. And that totally offsets everything else.

You are unbelievable.

I tie in other subjects because I'm trying to paint a more complete picture for you; because obviously you aren't seeing the whole context of what's going on.

As for needing to "reinforce my views." I guarantee you I get more news from MORE SOURCES, and do way more research than you do. I don't stop with one piece of information, I back it up with other information.

And I love how you totally ignored the quote from Mrs Berry. You want to speak to agendas? There it is for you in print. Maybe she was taken out of context too?

Then again, I think I understand why. If you are a liberal, which I'm suspecting you are. Answering to facts isn't much good to the chore of playing the victim.

Just like Mrs Sherrod.

Here's her husband from January 2010. Guess he was taken out of context too?

Charles Sherrod: "We must stop the white man and his Uncle Toms from stealing our elections."

The subject matter of this post was in regards to Shirley Sherrod and how she was railroaded by partisan hacks over a speech she made.

It was not about not about the NAACP. Not Martin Luther King Jr. Not Liberals. Not Republicans. Not anyone else. It's not about her past, it's not about her future and certainly not about what "I feel".

Failing to prove that the video (in its entirety) showed racism on her part, you continue to try and bait, change subject, or declare guilt by association (not that there is any guilt by ANY of the people/organizations/groups you are trying to indict) (oh - and straight up McCarthy tactics btw - impressive - nice try but no dice).

I predict you will make some kind of Obama connection within the next 5 comments if you stick around. You'll connect him with her speech somehow. Or maybe the so called 'liberal media' forced Breitbart into character assassination. Better yet, Bill Clinton. I'm sure you'll find a way there.

Even Breitbart has moved away from asserting that the video showed racism.

Still you are holding onto that.

Interesting.

So, there is no budging here on either your or my part. There won't be.

I leave you with one thing to really think hard about - it's not the number of sources you go to for news (there are millions after all), it is the diversity you should seek.

I'm not sure why I'm wasting my time though - you will be back with another guilt by association attack any moment in hopes that I take the bait.

"Failing to prove that the video (in its entirety) showed racism on her part, you continue to try and bait, change subject, or declare guilt by association."

So in your world, the term "in its entirety,

Sorry Karl, you wrote this in your entry:

"For a world of context from all sides.

I didn't realize that meant you were limiting that discussion to mean context from only one sliver of a point of view, YOURS.

There really is no point in trying to debate this with you. You'll see what you see, and I'll see reality. Quite the difference.

You'll just sit back and try to insult my intelligence, deflect responsibility, and frame the conversation in a way that fits your cause.

But you go ahead and lobby congress to have a new national holiday for Sherrod. She in your view seems to be worthy of Sainthood.

As for my sources? If by diversity, you mean the ones that tells me she did no wrong, was "setup," and my ears and ears are simply lying to me?

No thanks, I'd rather live in a world where people have to man up for their words and actions. Not hide behind blaming everybody else for my problems and mistakes.

(Note: That previous entry got gutted by coding somehow???)

I'll repost it to fill in the blanks.

"Failing to prove that the video (in its entirety) showed racism on her part, you continue to try and bait, change subject, or declare guilt by association."

So in your world, the term "in its entirety," would mean she'd need to throw in a few more white people this, and a couple of token crackers in order for it to be considered racist?

Thanks. You just proved my last comment true.

Next post in 5 minutes from you or so?

Proved your point? Which one was that? Actually, which question did you even answer during that entire exchange?

I'm all for having a debate with you on the issues. But it is hard to do that when you don't even answer any of the points I've made. You simply chose to ignore every single aspect of what I've said.

Looking forward into the future. I think I'll enjoy reading your blog after November...

The point of the comment was that that we were going to hold onto our own view points without changing them.

And yes I *do* think you should read sources of news that tell you what you don't expect or what you want to hear - that's the only way to learn. And do it every day. If you like townhall.com, subscribe to dailykos.com - or vice versa (not that these are equivalent - I have no idea). That kind of reading activity.

Use a site like memeorandum - the one I linked to - to observe both sides of the political conversation. There are more than two, but memorandum is the only national aggregator that presents at least the two in a form that reveals their separate threads.

Agreed.

I have plenty of sources for both sides of of political conversation.

But unfortunately one side seems to always have to make excuses and blame others for thing more than the other side.

As for DailyKos? I think I'd rather slice my arm off with a rusty handsaw than lose any brains cells to that board. I get sufficient doses of current news and discussion elsewhere.

I will very rarely use CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, and yes, even FOXNews as a primary source of current news. All of them seem to no longer report the news and let the viewers make up their minds. They want to BE the news. Quite a difference. As a matter of fact, I will rarely even watch TV anymore. If there's something I want to see, I can easily do it online without all the mindless commercials. If it wasn't for the Eagles and Flyers, I'd turn off our cable subscription altogether.

Also all of those sources above miss a good chunk of important news that they ALL seem to deem not newsworthy; for whatever political reasons.

And yes, I do believe it's time for you to come out of the Liberal closet Karl.

LOL
