Hey, at least there's a new Springsteen release in 38 days!
The amazing thing is some of those bands are really old Bill. Venom in particular is one of the originators of an entire genre - death metal. My addition to the "Greatest Metal Songs"?
Only one I need to add : Judas Priest - The Rage.
PS - Yes, I do own Rammstein and MuDvAyNe and Slipknot. They are good, but they didn't help build the metal scene to what it is today, the merely helped to expand it a little.

From here you can branch out again to death metal, thrash hybrids, and so on and so on...
We all see things differently. Led Zeppelin was never "HEAVY METAL" imo. They were the lead in the path down "HARD ROCK" with some heavy blues riffs and rock arrangements. Bands like Guns 'n' Roses have Led Zep to thank.
Black Sabbath imo was the FIRST true metal band. Of course you had more obscure bands like Diamond Head during the NWOBHM, but Iron Maiden and Priest were more visible.
Keep in mind the original poster asked to list best heavy metal "SONGS" and once again I'm like many who have gone off on a tangent comparing bands and styles.
In fact, most of the tunes listed here will suffice as great rock/metal tunes. Of course ymmv.
What about Yngwie Malmsteen? Okay... so he's "neoclassical", but it's innovative stuff. Besides, the guitar work kicks ASS!!
AC/DC is the best metal band of all time!
Hells Bells
TNT
Dirty Deeds
Thunderstruck
Shoot to Thrill
Back in Black
And my all time favorite song
You Shook Me All Night Long
